Rule 1: Keep a list of what you eat every day. People who keep a diet journal are more likely to lose weight that those that don’t. When you have to write down what you are putting into your mouth, you are less likely to feed yourself junk.
Rule 2: Stay active. Exercising for two to four hours a week is huge help in losing weight and keeping it off. Don’t think all this exercise has to be high-intensity, walking and biking are great ways to remain active.
Rule 3: Have snacks readily available. Keep foods like broccoli, snap peas, cucumbers or carrot sticks around to munch on. Snacks aren’t a bad thing, they keep your metabolism going, you just have to make sure you eat the right snacks. Nuts are another great snack idea.
Rule 4: Quit drinking unhealthy beverages. Pop, sugary sports drinks and alcoholic beverages are some of the worst things to put in your body. Replace these drinks with water to help you lose weight. If you want some flavor, add lemon, lime, cucumber or mint.
Rule 5: Slow down your eating. Savor each bite of your meal and make sure you chew your food around 40 times to maximize calorie burning and help digestion. It takes roughly 20 minutes for you brain to let your body know it’s full, so eating slower helps you not overeat.
Rule 7: Enjoying a glass or two of water before every meal will help you eat less. The water will fill up your stomach and make you feel fuller faster. Plus, water is great for your system.
Rule 8: Use smaller plates and serving dishes. This will trick your brain into thinking you eat more and will lead you to feel fuller faster. Also, you won’t have the compulsion to finish your plate when you start to feel full because you won’t have the extra food to eat.
Rule 9: Treat yourself every once and a while. By enjoying a piece of chocolate or one biscuit, you aren’t starving yourself from good tastes, but you are limiting the negative impact on your body. Also, note that dark chocolate is actually good for your body and digestion. Just remember to eat it in moderation.
Rule 10: Make realistic weight loss goals. You are more likely to keep weight off if you lose it at a healthy, slow rate. Shoot for 1-2 pounds a week.
